Six Tips to Promote Your Website
There must be dozens, if not hundreds, of ways you could be promoting your website. Many of these forms are easy to implement and cost-effective as well. Over the next few issues, I'd like to list a collection of ideas from readers, as well as a few of my own. If you have a contribution to make for a future issue, please email tribune@sitepoint.com. Here are some of my suggestions to start:
Put your URL on your business card. It helps if they're clever business cards, such as those belonging to famous hacker Kevin Mitnick, for example.
Create a video about your website. Sharing your video on sites such as YouTube or Vimeo can help spread the word.
Print mouse mats with your URL. Give them away to clients and friends. Your web address will be within a few feet of their browser at all times.
Ask for a forward. Encourage email newsletter subscribers to forward your email to their colleagues, so that there's a strong chance of them ending up at your website, too.
Have a sign made for your vehicle's back window. I wrote a piece about this back in Issue 487 of the Tribune.
Put your web address on a hot air balloon. No need to go to the expense of having a custom one made; in many cities, it's possible to rent them for a few weeks.
So that's the first six website marketing ideas, both online and off. I'm keen to hear about your ideas, too—the more original and clever, the better!
